New Delhi: When Apoorva Lakhia decided of remaking 1973's classic 'Zanjeer', he must have thought of creating a fitting scenario for the hugely popular story. Unfortunately, when his ideas were transformed on the celluloid, they turned out to be unconvincing, in fact they looked funny.
Ram Charan replaced Big B, Priyanka got into Mala's character and Prakash Raj became the new age Teja. However, during all the casting related exercise, the makers forgot to understand the significance of the title of the original film.
Ajit, who played Teja earlier, was definitely more suave than Prakash Raj's character but the new 'Zanjeer' is not wrong at just one front. The director planned for many replacements apart from the name. He has used the title just for the sake of using a popular name without thinking the relevance of it.
Inspector Vijay used to have nightmares in the original and in his dreams, he saw a man killing his parents, and that man wore a chain (Zanjeer), which later helps Vijay identify the man.
A tattoo replaces the chain in the remake and ACP Vijay Khanna recognises the villain of his life via that tattoo. Ideally, the remake should have something similar to a chain to establish the title but it features nothing like that.
Either the director didn't understand the value of the name 'Zanjeer' or he just disregarded the audience's need to understand the title. It's a grave mistake in both the cases.
