Kolkata: Pailan Arrows are set for another big test when they face a resurgent Sporting Clube de Goa in their Round 20 I-League fixture at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Sunday.
Sporting Clube have made a good turnaround under Oscar Bruzon and won two important matches against local rivals in the last two rounds. They beat Salgaocar 2-0 before ending the prodigious run of Churchill Brothers 1-0 in the previous round and Bruzon will be keen to maintain their winning run.
Pailan Arrows played a very inspired game against East Bengal in the previous round. Despite a 1-2 loss, Arrows earned a lot of praise for their robust performance.
"Our opponents are young and very spirited. (Coach) Arthur Papas has done very well in bringing up the side to match the level of maturity of the top club teams of the country," Sporting Clube coach said. "Foreigners make a difference in the tournament as most of the teams depend on them for success. But for success you need a balanced team. Arrows have done well playing without foreigners."
"We have a mix of youth and experience and have the right combination of foreigners. It will be a good contest tomorrow," added the Spanish coach said.
"I believe in focusing on training methods which are applicable to the style and ability of the players of a team. I try to determine the weakness of a player and address them accordingly. We practice to specific methods and that has proved well so far," Bruzon said when asked how he brought Sporting Clube out of crisis. "There is no reason of taking our young opponents lightly. We will have to be cautious about their speed and energy," Sporting Clube coach said giving due respect to their opponents.
