Yes, I was ragged, called 'Gujju Ben' by boys who'd often block my way, says Dalmia College alumnus Deepshikha Nagpal
Deepshikha Nagpal speaks to us about being ragged in college and not having enough courage to give it back to boys who'd harass her.

Deepshikha Nagpal may not have been a bookworm who'd score a perfect 100 in all her subjects at school and university exams, but with her consistent and unswerving efforts, she succeeded in being a performer, something she takes huge pride in.

Currently in Chandigarh to shoot for her upcoming film, Deepshikha got nostalgic about her school and college life while speaking to IBNLive.com. As Deepshikha took a stroll down her memory lane, she told us what it felt like on being ragged by college seniors and not having enough courage to give it back to boys who'd block her way.

So would she really not spend hours studying at school and college? "No, I was never a studious kid. I would study just a few days before my exams and still manage to get a decent score. Most of my friends would find it hard to accept that one could score high despite not studying for long hours. But the truth is never studied that hard," she chuckled.

After finishing her schooling at Baroda Arya Kanya Vidyalaya, she studied at Dalmia College, the place which holds many memories for her. Since I'm a Gujarati, people would refer to me as 'Gujju Ben'. Obviously, this treatment didn't go down well with me. I found it both irksome and disgraceful, my face would turn red each time I was called by that name. The worst part was that my classmates and seniors would take jabs at me by doing the same. They would say, 'Äb gujju baen ko gussa ayega'. And yes, I was also ragged at my college. I remember the college General Secretary would often stand at the college gate to block my way. Agar mai right jati toh wohh bhi right jaatey. Agar mai left jati toh wohh bhi left jaatey. Once I had to call my friend's brother Amit to rescue me. So yes, that was the shy Deepshikha years ago, but now I have a vigorous and independent mind. I know I can give it back to all those boys who created trouble for me at college."

Strong words these, Deepshikha!
