BHUBANESWAR: The police on Friday registered a case suo motu against City-based operator Dove Tours for allegedly showing Bonda tribes in bad light on its website.Basing on a report by Inspector In-Charge of Sahid Nagar Police Station, an FIR was lodged by Commissionerate of Police against Gagan Sarangi and Deepak Sarangi, promoters of Dove Tours. They have been booked under Section 292 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.The police action follows the State Government’s decision to ask a senior official to inquire into allegations of “human safari” offered in the tribal areas by tour operators. Dove Tours came to picture for its objectionable contents on its website to promote tribal tourism in the State.“We decided to register the case suo motu after a report by the Sahid Nagar IIC Alok Jena to this effect. We will take necessary action against the operator,” Police Commissioner Bijay Kumar Sharma said.Police were also scanning the web portal of the tour operator where the objectionable description of the primitive tribal group was posted for the tourists. In fact, the link on Bonda tribe in Dove Tour’s website has been removed after media reports from London claimed that tour operators have been offering “human safari” in the Bonda hills. Soon after, the Chief Minister’s Office took exception to the matter and a senior official was asked to visit Malkangiri district to ascertain the facts.Orders were issued to tour operators to delete objectionable materials from their websites with immediate effect relating to the State, its culture and tribes.
