The government was indicted by the Madras High Court for the delay in getting the approval of the State cabinet for the draft rules regulating school buses.
“It is unfortunate that in such serious matters, despite the assurance given by the advocate-general to produce the draft rules before the court without seeking for further adjournment, till date the draft rules have not been produced before us,’’ the first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice A Arumugasamy observed on Wednesday.
The bench was passing further interim orders on a suo-motu writ petition on the July 25 incident in which Sruthi (6) of Zion Matriculation School in Selaiyur got crushed by the rear wheels of the school bus after slipping through a big hole in the bus.
Advocate R Y George Williams brought to the notice of the bench that five more such dea-ths have happened within a short period since July 25.
“It is high time that the draft rules must be produced before the court,’’ the bench said and posted the matter on September 3.
