New Delhi: A 70-year-old retired government teacher and his wife were assaulted and tied up by four unidentified assailants who barged into their residence in North Delhi's Timarpur area and robbed cash and valuables.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when Shiv Baksh Pandey and his wife Ram Surat Pandey were on the ground floor of their house while their elder son and his family were on the first floor.
"Two youths knocked the door of the house following which Pandey opened the door. The duo entered on the pretext of painting the house but as soon as they got in, they overpowered Pandey and dragged him to the room of his wife.
The two other youths then followed them and bolted the house from inside," said a police official. The assailants first tied Pandey's wife, gagged her mouth and then asked him to handover the valuables. One of them assaulted his wife while another one hit him with a blunt object, he said.
Scared, Pandey handed over the keys of their locker from which the robbers allegedly robbed Rs 10,000. They also snatched his wife's gold chain and earrings before ransacking the house searching for other valuables.
Before fleeing, they also tied up Pandey and pushed him to the floor. The couple somehow called for help after which the
couple's daughter-in-law and children, who were on the first floor of the house, rushed down.
A PCR call was made after which a police team rushed to the spot. Investigators found blood on the bed where his wife was beaten up. The injured couple was taken to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital from where they were discharged after treatment.
Police said they have registered a case of robbery and assault and are investigating the matter although nobody has been arrested so far.
