Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court on Monday barred the Jat community in the Dholpur and Bharatpur regions of the state from being treated as Other Backward Castes (OBCs).
However, the court allowed reservation of Jats in other districts of the state.
The court directed the Rajasthan government to constitute a state OBC commission to review the status of all communities getting the OBC reservation in the state.
The Jat community was awarded reservation under the OBC category by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999, which was replicated by the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan.
However, multiple writ petitions have been filed in court thereafter challenging the move.
