New Delhi: Now, when the concluding part of the director Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ is set for a Wednesday release, we felt the need of a recap of the first part. The makers had decided to release the film in two parts, each of 160 minutes duration, due to the abundance of research material. The first part has received critical and commercial acclaim, and thus the audiences have high expectations from the second part also.
The basic premise is set in a town called Wasseypur, which is famous for its coal fields and gangsters operating in the vicinity of these fields.
The story opens up with a daring villager Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat), who takes up the business of looting the trains, in order to support his family. The Pathan lad uses the name of a local dacoit Sultana for his purpose. He pays a price for it when his family gets killed by the goons of Queraishi community.
Shahid leaves the village and comes to Dhanbad where he catches the eyes of a local landlord and businessman Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). He becomes Singh’s chief muscle man before being murdered in a planned way.
Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) is Shahid’s son whose sole purpose in life is to avenge the death of his father. Slowly and steadily, Sardar Khan understands the black-business of colliery, but it takes him a life time to reach to the position when he could openly challenge Ramadhir Singh.
Sardar is a passionate man with a weakness. Though he is married to Nagma (Richa Chaddha), he falls in ‘momentary love’ with a Bengali woman Durga (Reema Sen). Sardar’s 6th sense and audacious nature bring him to the limelight and he gets acknowledged as the leader of Pathans in the region.
His careful planning and bold steps give him an edge over Sultan (Pankaj Tripathi), a Queraishi leader. Now, he has a direct fight with Ramadhir Singh, who decides to support Sultan from behind the curtains.
Sardar’s son falls in love with Sultan’s sister and the two get married with the support from the local religious leader. This doesn’t go down well with Sultan and thus he vows to kill Sardar Khan.
Meanwhile, Sardar’s second son Faizal (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) takes over his business. He seems to be a depressed man with a leaning towards Hindi films.
Sardar Khan meets death during his pursuit of revenge.
The second part of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ is expected to be the continuation of the half achieved revenge. According to the promos of the film, Faizal is going to fulfil his father’s wish of completely demolishing Ramadhir Singh.
