Neurology: From molecules to metaphor

Renowned US scientist talks on Neurology: from molecules to metaphor was organised at the UoH on Tuesday by professor VS Ramachandran, director, Centre for Brain and Cognition and professor department of psychology, University of California, San Diego.Called Marco Polo of Neuroscience by Richard Dawkins, and the modern Paul Broca by Eric Kandel, professor Ramachandran gave a distinguished lecture on Neurology to a packed audience in the DST Auditorium. He emphasized on the role of systematic scientific investigations and explanation underlying bizarre neurological and psychiatric condition often described as ‘being crazy’ in the popular discourse. He also explained how the syndromes can arise purely from specific disconnection, cross connection or remapping of connections between brain areas.His explanation spanned from genes to metaphors.The lecture was presided over by prof Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, vice chancellor, UoH.
