THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Political Affairs Committee of the KPCC decided to counter politically the LDF campaign against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy following the directives issued by the Vigilance special court in the palmolein case. However, the committee decided to take a cautious approach on the legal aspects of the issue, even while asserting that the Chief Minister will come clean in any probe.Briefing mediapersons on the committee meeting in which the Chief Minister and other ministers participated, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala told mediapersons that the demand for Chandy’s resignation was nothing but a politically motivated one and was part of the CPM agenda to divert attention of the public from the divisions within that party in the run-up to the organisational polls.“The campaign of the CPM and the LDF is a ploy to divert attention from the internal problems of the CPM. People will soon realise this,” Chennithala said. “The CPM had always resorted to such tactics whenever the party faced any crisis,” the KPCC chief said. “Opposition Deputy leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had only demanded that the Chief Minister should relinquish the Vigilance portfolio. The demand for resignation which was raised later by the CPM is unacceptable. It is quite surprising to see the LDF which had been ridiculing court verdicts all through the five years while it was in power, making shameless demands,” he said.To a query about the reported Congress stand on the overzealousness of the Vigilance court special judge who passed the directive to probe the role of Chandy in the palmolein case, Chennithala said that the party did not want to comment on the conduct of the judge.
