BANGALORE: If everything goes well, Multi Modal Transport will become a reality, said Secretary to Transport Department M K Shankaralinge Gowda at a seminar last week. The project, to be implemented at the Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS), will integrate various modes of public transport. If the project becomes successful, commuters can drive to KBS, park their vehicles and choose from various transport modes for commuting. The project will offer options like the Metro Rail, BMTC and KSRTC buses and autorickshaws, besides a dedicated parking space to park personal vehicles. The project will be implemented in three phases and will cost approximately Rs 1,700 crore. The proposed completion time for the project is five years. “Tenders have been invited on public private partnership (PPP) basis and twelve firms have already been issued Request for Quotation (RFQ). We will only consider giving the Request for Proposal (RFP) to qualified companies,” said a senior KSRTC official. The Metro project has currently occupied about 20 acres of land on the KBS premises, out of which 7.5 acres will be retained by it permanently. The Multi Modal Transport project aims to utilise the remaining land in phase III of the project. “We already have the land for the first two phases, we will get the land back from Metro by the time we start work on Phase III,” the official added. The project also aims to connect KBS to the railway station by a passage on the lines of the present subway. This would provide commuters access to all available means of public transport in a central location.
