CHENNAI: Municipal Administration Minister KP Munusamy on Monday said that works on the Hogenakkal project were progressing well and the project would be completed on schedule in 2012.Answering the query of T Ramachandran (CPI) in the State Assembly, the Minister said on completion, the scheme would benefit 30 lakh people in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts. The project was being implemented at a cost of Rs 1,928.80 crore and Rs 63.67 crore had been allocated for maintainence works. After completion, 160 million gallons per day (MLD) of water would be provided to the people of these two districts. In villages, 40 litres of water would be provided per person, while 70 litres and 90 litres would be provided per person in town panchayats and municipalities respectively.DMDK leader Panruti S Ramachandran said the government should inquire into the delay in implementing the project and the undue escalation of the cost of the project.When Nanjappan (CPI) asked whether new areas would be included under the Hogenakkal project,Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said during the previous AIADMK regime between 2001
