BANGALORE: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has squarely blamed the BJP and Congress for the impending power crisis in the state.“The BJP’s unreasonable confrontationist attitude in the past as well as the absence of concern and longrange vision on the part of the Congress are reasons for Karnataka to face blackout for round the year,” Kumaraswamy addressed reporters here on Friday. He also charged the two parties of not taking forward the power projects started by the Janata Pariwar governments of the 80s and early 90s.“Cogentrix, Tannerbavi, Enron, Tadadi, expansion of NPH, Hassan thermal power plant, Coastal Power Corporation to name a few were conceived by the JD government headed by H D Deve Gowda. But the BJP opposed all these projects thereby becoming primarily responsible for the power crisis.” Chiding Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje for her visit to Delhi seeking more power, Kumaraswamy said, “She should have visited Delhi before the onset of monsoon to persuade the Centre to give additional coal in order to keep a ready stock. It is commonsense that coal mining will be hit due to rains. There is no point in blaming Delhi for what is essentially the state’s lack of genuine concern.” He said his party’s protest on October 23 against the mismanagement of power situation will be followed by state-wide agitation against the misrule of the BJP government. On the Jan Chetana Yatra undertaken by senior BJP leader L K Advani, Kumaraswamy said on what moral ground the yatra will traverse in Karnataka, especially after he had failed to take action against corrupt ministers in the state government.
