Goethe-Zentrum to screen links Beyond Silence

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Goethe-Zentrum Thiruvananthapuram will screen the movie ‘Jenseits Der Stille’ (Beyond Silence) by the German director Caroline Link the coming Saturday at 6.45 pm. The film was nominated for the Oscar in the Best Foreign Film Category in 1996.The film is about Lara who, since the earliest days of her childhood, has had a difficult, but important, task. Both her parents are deaf-mute and she has to translate from sign-language to the spoken word and vice versa when her parents want to communicate with other people. Getting older and more mature, she becomes interested in music and starts to play the clarinet successfully. But her parents are deaf, and they cannot share her joy. The day comes when Lara has to decide between her parents and her own ambitions. The film will be screened at the amphitheatre of the Goethe Zentrum. Entry is free. For reserving seats, call 3013018.
