BANGALORE: Air Commodore KK Tripathy of the Head Quarters Training Command on Thursday called upon students and youths to create awareness among the public about the Geneva Convention and Red Cross.He was speaking after inaugurating the Geneva Convention Day and centenary death anniversary of Jean Henry Durant, the founder of Red Cross, organised by the Karnataka State Branch (KSB) of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and M S Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce.Tripathy said, “The Red Cross was born in the battlefield to render medical help to the wounded soldiers. Today, it is in the forefront of alleviating sufferings of the people caused by natural disasters and bringing relief and comfort to the victims. This message should be passed on to the public.”He also spoke about the significance of the Red Cross emblem and said 135 nations have signed the Geneva Convention giving humanism an international dimension.To mark the day, Indian Red Cross Society is observing Geneva Convention Day every year on August 12 as a Fund Raising Day.General Secretary of IRCS, KSB, K R Dharmappa and  Principal of M S Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce Dr Shakuntala Samuelson werea among those present on the occasion.
