Guwahati: The Special Branch of Assam police has arrested six youths from Barpeta district in connection with the October 2 blast at Burdwan in West Bengal.
Two terrorists were killed and one was injured in the blast which occurred in a house in Khagragarh area of Burdwan.
West Bengal Police later arrested two women - Amina Bibi and Rajira Bibi - and claimed to have found enough evidence to prove their links with terror outfits.
The two women divulged names of six youths arrested Friday, said sources.
Assam Police are also probing possible links of the six youths with the Bangladesh-based Islamic terror network Jamat-ul-Mujahideen, a highly placed official of Assam Police said Friday.
"Based on specific information, we have arrested these six youths for their involvement in the Burdwan blast. They were presented in the court today and were remanded in 14-day police custody by the court here," said the official.
The central government has already handed over the probe into the Burdwan blast to the National Investigating Agency (NIA) which has registered a case in this regard.
Several organisations, including the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), have been alleging that at least 14 Islamic terrorist outfits which have links with international Islamic terror network are operating in Assam.
"We have started the investigation and efforts are on to get some vital clues regarding the presence of Islamic terror network in Assam," said the official.
