Discovery Channels latest sees two men surviving life-threatening car stunts

The latest man-versus-nature series, One Car Too Far, follows two men — former British special forces soldier Gary Humphrey and Southern California car enthusiast Bill Wu — as they set out on a journey in extreme Chilean locales. The only means of survival is their four wheeler. In a quick chat, the two men talk about their adventure and the weird tricks they employed.

What price, life?

The toughest challenge onthe show that premiered this month? “We were coming off the volcano in Chile, and came to the ice field. As we were driving down a steep ice slope, we could see the gravel in front of us (which was around 40 feet away) and we slid into a gully. We hit the gravel and came off the ice, and then the back wheel ripped out of the car, totally smashed into pieces,” shares Humphrey, who used to be a bodyguard t o Matt Damon, Simon Cowell and Tony Bourdain.

Quick reaction

The show sees the two of them employing weird survival tricks. “One of our spark plug wires melted and I used a tree branch to bridge the part of the melted wire, and the branch was able to conduct electricity and spark through the wire to the plug,” says Wu, a realtor, who also used eggs to seal the crack of a radiator. Humphrey, clearly impressed with his partner, says, “It was pretty cool to see Bill working and thinking out of the box.”

The bonding

When it comes to bonding, Wu can’t stop talking about the ‘bromance’ they share, “It’s funny because Discovery put two guys that were complete opposites. I didn’t want to get cut and dirty and stung by bugs and Gary’s out there doing that. But towards the end, you’ll see us bond and do some crazy stuff together.”

One Car Too Far airs on Discovery Channel on weekdays at 10 pm
