Comedian Kapil Sharma, and actresses Huma Qureshi and Hina Khan have sought one week time from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The three were summoned by the central agency on October 6 in connection to the Mahadev betting app case. However, News18 has learned that Kapil Sharma informed ED about his shoot abroad due to which he will not be able to appear on Friday. On the other hand, Huma and Hina have cited personal reasons.
Shraddha Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor Also Summoned By ED
Shraddha Kapoor, who was also summoned by the ED official, has not responded as of now. Ranbir Kapoor was also supposed to appear before the agency on Friday but had also sent a mail seeking a time of 1.5 weeks. His request has also been accepted.
What Is The Mahadev Betting Case All About?
For the unversed, the Mahadev betting apps have different games, lotteries and betting options for everything under the sun, including the prediction of election results, weather, matches etc. These have been operational for the past four years. The online app, like other Ponzi schemes, targeted the lower-income group. The games, the lotteries and betting options were all rigged where the ‘players’ always lost money and the company gained.
Reportedly, Mahadev app promoters Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal allegedly gained around Rs 5,000 crore through the scam. They allegedly used money earned from the betting to pay celebrities. According to ED sources, more than a dozen A-listers, including Bollywood and Tollywood actors as well as sportspersons, are under the scanner. Ranbir Kapoor is allegedly the highest-paid star among these names and advertised for the app on social media.
More than 100 influencers, who promoted the app, will eventually be summoned by the central agency. Moreover, more than 14 celebrities, who attended a wedding event organised by the app promoters in Dubai, will also be summoned.
