BANGALORE: Bangalore tops the list when it comes to registration of child rights violation cases. Speaking at a round table meet jointly organised by the Child Rights Commission and National Law School India University, Nina Nayak, chairperson of the Commission, said even though complaints were registered, there were serious drawbacks when it came to enforcement of rules.
It is believed that out of the 401 cases registered with the Commission this year, 175 complaints were from the city. Mysore registered 22 complaints followed by Mangalore with 21 cases. However, Nayak emphasised that there is a need for better coordination between government agencies and non-governmental organisations to ensure that these complaints are addressed.
Members from the Commission also said that 113 out of the 401 cases are related to RTE. Among these cases, Bangalore has registered close to 42 complaints which is the highest again. M R Mamatha, a member, added that there were problems with the implementation of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), especially at the districts in North Karnataka.
