Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Jolly has taken over as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command (SAC).
He was the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at the SAC and succeeds Air Marshal S P Singh, who retired on Tuesday after a career spanning 38 years.
Air Marshal Jolly, who hails from Delhi, was commissioned in the fighter stream of the IAF on July 11, 1975. He has flown various types of aircraft including all variants of the MiG-21 and has 3,800 hours of flying to his credit.
He has commanded a MiG-21 Squadron at a forward fighter base.
He was the Director of Air Operations (Joint Planning) and later served as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff Operations (Offensive) at Air HQ.
Air Marshal Jolly has also served as Air Attache at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC.
He was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal.
Air Marshal Jolly is the Commodore Commandant of 51 Squadron.
He is married to Meenakshi Jolly and the couple has one daughter Bhavna.
Air Marshal S P Singh Retires
Outgoing SAC chief Air Marshal S P Singh was accorded the traditional Pulling Out Ceremony after he handed over the reins to Air Marshal R K Jolly.
