HUBLI/BIJAPUR: Former chief minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumarswamy suggested that the state government form political committees in all drought-hit taluks to tackle the situation effectively. He said here on Thursday that the government, has woken up late to their plight. “Ministers should not tour the affected areas for namesake, but address the concerns of the public... drilling of borewells is only a programme to distribute money to contractors,” he said, adding that the government must take up drinking water projects as a permanent measure. He averred that the Centre did not release any additional grants, other than the Rs 2,500 crore grant to handle natural disasters, to take up relief works. He added: “Why can’t the state government release funds to compensate for crop loss?”Meanwhile in Bijapur, the former CM reiterated his demand for the committees.“Transparency over financial matters is important... ministers must monitor spending of government grants."
