BANGALORE: An excursion turned tragic as three engineering students accidentally drowned at Sangam in Kanakapura on the outskirts of the city on Sunday evening.The deceased have been identified as Vivekananda of Gulbarga, Akhil Kumar and Venugopal from Andhra Pradesh. All are aged between 20 and 23 years and were studying BE at Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College of Engineering in Harohalli.According to the police, about seven friends had gone to Sangam for an excursion in the afternoon and by evening they jumped into Sangam for swimming. But one of the deceased student started drowning and in a bid to save him, two others also drowned. The bodies are yet to be fished out and the operations would be held on Monday morning.Sathanur police have registered a case in this connection. Law Student’s Condition Still Critical The condition of 28-year-old law student Ashalatha who allegedly attempted suicide at Bangalore University Registrar’s (Evaluation) chamber on Saturday evening continues to be critical, the doctors treating her at Gayatri Hospital, Vijayanagar, said on Sunday.She is being treated at an Intensive Care Unit, Dr Suneel Babu told Express. “The poison which she consumed has gone into her lungs. She has breathing problems and is under observation,” he added.Asha, a native of Tumkur, allegedly tried to end her life by consuming poison when she was not allowed to appear for examinations. Meanwhile, Ulsoor Gate police are still waiting for her statement to register a complaint. Ashalatha is studying at Vidyodaya Law College in Tumkur. According to sources, the incident took place at about 4.30 pm on Saturday when she had gone to meet the Registrar to take his permission to appear for examinations. However, she allegedly tried to end her life since she was denied permission, sources said. ACP Suneel Kumar (Law and order) said the Ulsoor Gate police are investigating the case.
