Ranji Trophy: Tanmay Agarwal Smashes Fastest Triple Century in First-class Cricket
Tanmay Agarwal broke the record of South Africa’s Marco Marais who reached the triple century of 191 balls for Border against Eastern Province in 2017.

Hyderabad batter Tanmay Agarwal scripted history on Friday and scored the fastest triple century in first-class cricket during the Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal. Tanmay reached the feat in just 147 balls to register his name in the record books.

The Hyderabad opener broke the record of South Africa’s Marco Marais who reached the triple century of 191 balls for Border against Eastern Province in 2017.

  • 244 balls – Vivian Richards for Somerset vs Warwickshire at the County Ground, Taunton in 1985
  • 244 balls – Kusal Perera for Colts Cricket Club vs Saracens Sports Club at the Colts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo in 2012/13

On his way to the triple ton, Tanmay also got the better of legendary Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri’s 39-year-old record of the fastest double century by an Indian in first-class cricket. Tanmay reached the mark in 119 balls which was also the second-fastest First-Class double century ever.

He also broke several other knocks including Ishan Kishan’s for the most sixes in an innings of India’s premier domestic tournament. Tanmay smashed 21 sixes during his knock seven more of which Kishan hit.

Tanmay shared a mammoth 440-run stand for the opening wicket alongside Rahul Singh Gahlaut in just 40.2 overs but the Hyderabad skipper was dismissed for 185 off 105 deliveries.

At Stumps, Tanmay was unbeaten on 323 off 160 balls which was laced with 21 sixes and 33 fours at an astonishing strike rate of 201.87.

Techi Doria was the lone wicket-taker for Arunachal thus far as Hyderabad posted 529/1 in 41 overs at stumps on Day 1.

Earlier, Hyderabad bundled out Arunachal for just 172 in 39.4 overs. Chama V Milind and Kartikeya Kak were the pick of the bowlers for Hyderabad as they claimed three wickets each. While Tanay Thyagarajan picked a couple.
