The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders finally got his hands on the title and he was really lost for words after reflecting on what has been an outstanding campaign, leading his side to the title by beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The skipper had spoken in the post-match presentations where he was all praise for his teammates for putting up absolutely clinical performances in all aspects. KKR had the stranglehold on SRH right from ball one and did not let loose for even a second as the Sunrisers were completely outplayed in the big finale.
“Absolutely comprehensive. This is what we demanded from the team and every individual. They stood up to the right occasion and the feeling is hard to express. It (wait) was so long, longer than the match. We played like invincibles throughout the season,” Shreyas Iyer reacted to the win.
The message was simple for Shreyas Iyer, to back each other and remain united and the team spirit was truly on display with several players stepping up to the task in various situations to dig the side out of trouble.

He commented, “There’s so much to cherish right now. It is pleasing, the performance has been flawless throughout. I am running out of words right now. We have been tremendous from game one, we stepped up today. All we demanded from ourselves was to back each other whatever the situation was”.
Looking at the game, Shreyas was well aware of the threat that SRH posed and commended the way they have played throughout the season. The captain believes that the toss played an important role and looks forward to playing more games in the future.
“The game could have been either way. They have been playing phenomenal cricket – SRH – throughout the season. We were lucky to bowl first and every situation went in our favour. Thanks to SRH the way they played. Looking forward to playing more competitive cricket,” he said.
A key moment in the final was the way Mitchell Starc utilised his experience and give KKR the start they needed with two wickets in the powerplay to set the tone. Shreyas believes that the experience really showed and commended his contributions both on and off the field.

Shreyas praised Starc by saying, “That’s when all the big players stand up, right? It was a high-pressure game and he’s been so good off the field. He’s never shown any complacency in his work ethic. He stepped up to the right occasion”.
Another under-rated performance was none other than Dre-Russ who turned up in the big match by picking up three wickets in the first innings. This has been a regular occurrence where the skipper turned to him and the West Indies international has delivered with bat or ball.
He’s got that magic wand (on Russell), and he’s looking forward to picking wickets. When I look at him, I know he can look at me. All the guys stepped up at the right time. Made it easier. It has been a flawless season.
