Just consult the TikTok duo who took a daring step by cutting off the bottoms of their pricey shoes, all in the name of a fervent desire to stroll barefoot. In their relentless ‘pursuit’ of going barefoot, the couple documented the bizarre experiment, dubbing it ‘incognito’ barefooting. The internet, however, collectively cringed and wished they could unsee the spectacle.
Re-shared on ‘X’, the video initiated with the revelation of how the TikToker @christifritz and her husband embraced the idea of going barefoot after a follower suggested it. Given that certain establishments and places prohibited complete barefooting, the ingenious solution was to modify their shoes by cutting the bottoms, allowing them to ‘blend’ in while pursuing their barefoot escapades. The realization of the commitment required hit hard, especially when considering their beloved shoes, priced at a whopping $20,000 (approximately INR 16.5 lakhs). Imagine sacrificing such high-value footwear for what some might consider ‘nothing’!

As the original poster (OP) declared, “This is the sacrifice we were willing to make because walking barefoot means the world to us, as the benefits of walking barefoot are priceless.” They proceeded to unveil their inventive method, crafting miniature shelves for toes and heels, complete with a tiny lip to cradle their toenails as they strolled.
Branding the act of cutting shoe bottoms as both ‘freeing’ and ‘detoxifying,’ they ventured into the wild – or rather, a Sephora store – where being entirely barefoot might not have been received well. To their delight, despite compliments on their high-end shoes, nobody seemed to catch wind of the alteration, leading them to wholeheartedly endorse the ‘incognito barefoot’ lifestyle for reaping the benefits without attracting attention.

But public streets and stores?!?” exclaimed one viewer on the viral ‘X’ clip, raking in over 20 million views. Another, in sheer disbelief, questioned, “Their shoes are worth $20,000? And they cut them up to walk barefoot on concrete?” The third added, “Easily one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen.” The fourth humourously pondered, “I’m just thinking about how much human and animal urine and faeces they’re willingly walking over.”
