Novak Djokovic and Corentin Moutet were engaged in a spectacular match in the second round of the Italian Open. The fixture also witnessed a bizarre incident when a phone started ringing on the sidelines. It led the match official to halt the proceedings. At that moment, Moutet was gearing up for a serve. He initially ignored the sound but the umpire asked him to wait for the device to become silent. Moutet needed a few seconds to understand that it was the sound of his alarm. The French tennis player then immediately rushed to his kit bag. He took out his phone and then turned off the alarm.

Moutet made sure to apologise to the official and his opponent Djokovic for the interruption. After the source of the sound was revealed, the crowd at the Foro Italico, situated in Rome, was left in splits.
Djokovic also could not stop laughing as he was waiting for the game to resume. Moutet also took the matter quite lightly. He was captured making an imaginary phone call before putting the phone back into his kit bag.
Following an enthralling battle of one hour and 26 minutes, Djokovic got the better of Moutet with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-1. With this win, the Serbian great secured his place in the third round of the Italian Open. After his dominant triumph, Djokovic took some time out to meet and greet some of his fans at the centre court and that’s when a shocking event unfolded.

Djokovic was busy signing an autograph on a cap when a water bottle came flying from the stands. The object hurt his head, leaving the Serbian star in pain. He sat on the ground while holding his head. Some members of the medical team immediately came forward to evaluate the severity of the wound.
It was later revealed that the bottle had fallen from the backpack of a fan while he attempted a high-five with Djokovic. The world number one tennis player received stitches for a cut on his head. Providing an update on his condition, Djokovic later wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “Thank you for the messages of concern. This was an accident and I am fine resting at the hotel with an ice pack. See you all on Sunday.”
