Google is commemorating the 126th anniversary of the public opening of the Eiffel Tower with a doodle on its home page created by guest doodler Floriane Marchix. The 324-metre-high (1,062-foot) Paris landmark made of iron opened to the public on March 31, 1889 and sees some 7 million visitors each year and up to 30,000 a day during the peak summer season. It took five months to build the tower's foundation and 21 months to assemble over 18,000 pieces of puddle iron using over two and a half million rivets. The plan, initially, was to demolish the structure, two decades later but then the tower by then defined the Paris skyline.French photographer Theophile Feau, captured the construction of the tower by taking photographs from the tower of the Trocadero at 15 day intervals. The GIF animation below captures the 21 month-long assembling of the Eiffel Tower in 11 frames. Can't view the HTML5 version of the animation? Click here.(Photo by Henry Guttmann/Getty Images.
