SALEPUR: After the deluge, water and vectorborne diseases have become a cause of concern for people of the district. The situation has turned worse due to shortage of drinking water and unhygienic living conditions due to stagnant water in many areas. Even as flood water has started receding, carcasses of animals, trees and garbage are found in many areas. People of lowlying areas are now complaining of viral fever and pneumonia.
While many are alleging that relief is yet to reach them, some said there was no baby food for infants. While mosquito menace is on the rise, locals alleged that the administration has not supplied water purification materials, bleaching powder and halogen tablets in all the affected areas.Official sources said a total of 1,24,000 water pouches (250 ml) have been provided in Salepur block till Tuesday. "There is no manufacturing date and batch number on the water pouches that have been supplied by the RWSS Department. The water was also stinking," alleged a villager.
