Lalu appealed to the Centre to expedite the formation of Telangana state.

New Delhi: Even as the Telangana standoff continues, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav on Saturday met Telangana Rashtriya Samiti President Chandrashekhar Rao in Delhi.

The former Bihar Chief Minister said that he was in support of the Telangana Bill. He even appealed to the Centre to expedite the formation of Telangana state.

This political development comes days after the Andhra Pradesh assembly rejected the separate statehood bill on Thursday.

Even as the AP Assembly did not pass the Bill, it is unlikely to have any influence on the Centre's decision to bifurcate the state.

Sources said that the Centre is likely to present Telangana Bill in Parliament in February even if the AP assembly does not pass the resolution.

The Group of Ministers are expected to meet on February 4 to give final shape to the bill. The Ministry of Home Affairs will then put up the bill most likely on February 7th before Cabinet.
