Delhi Assembly LIVE Updates: After a stormy session on Monday, BJP MLAs on Tuesday dressed in black in the House to protest against CM Kejriwal. After six BJP MLAs were marshalled out and two other left in protest, Kejriwal addressed the House where he lashed out at the L-G over his interference in government workings.

The three-day winter session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly started on Monday on a tumultuous note as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced off, days after the parties tussled during the mayoral election of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The house was adjourned after protest by AAP MLAs against Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s alleged interference in the working of the city government. The house saw repeated adjournments and barely 10 minutes of proceedings could be held.

  • “L-G told me that it is because of him that BJP won 104 seats in the MCD else BJP would not have won even 10,” alleged Kejriwal as he addressed the House. He further said, “my teachers never checked my homework the way the L-G is checking my files: spelling is wrong, comma is not here etc.”.
  • Lashing out at the L-G, Kejriwal said, “Begani shaadi mei abdulla diwana…kaun hai L-G, kahan se aa gaya LG ? Humare sar pe baith jaate hain L-G” (Who is the L-G, where did he come from? He is sitting on our heads). The Supreme Court has said that L-G does not have any independent decision-making power, he further added. “SC orders are binding. L-G argued that he is the administrator and has supreme powers.”
  • Stating that he views the children of Delhi the same as his own children, Kejriwal said, “So many BJP MPs and MLAs have studied abroad. Did their parents do any cost benefit analysis?…I don’t object to that. I object to the mindset of not allowing children of the poor to get good education. L-G saab has the same mindset.”
  • Addressing the House, Delhi CM Kejriwal said, “I’m unhappy that BJP MLAs are not in the floor of the House. There is a discussion in the entire country on this serious issue of whether elected government should govern or one nominated person.” He further added, “Neither their nor our government is permanent. Tomorrow, if God wills, we may have a government in the center and our L-G also.”
  • CM Arvind Kejriwal reached the Assembly and is likely to address the House at 1 pm.
  • Six BJP MLAs were marshaled out of the House on day two of the winter session, while, Leader of Opposition Bidhuri and MLA V Gupta walked out in protest. They then protested near the Ambedkar statue on the premises. Gupta said that the government wants to run a session minus opposition and unless the government agrees to a discussion on corruption, their protest will continue.
  • Solicitor General Tushar Mehta criticised the recent protests by Aam Aadmi Party against the LG as the hearing on who controls civil services in Delhi in underway before the Constitution Bench. “Protests and theatrics can never take place of the submissions before SC” the SG said.
  • BJP MLAs reached the Assembly on Tuesday dressed in black with placards asking Kejriwal to resign over the issue of corruption.
  • LG VK Saxena should not “behave like a headmaster” checking students’ homework, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday as AAP MLAs protested against the L-G’s alleged interference in the workings of the government.
  • Kejriwal also asked L-GVK Saxena to give in writing that he had never rejected the proposal for sending government teachers for training to Finland as the two sides continued to lock horns over the matter.
  • Earlier in the day, Kejriwal along with Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP MLAs had led a march to the L-G’s office to protest against the issue of teacher training in Finland. The LG’s office, however, asserted that it has not rejected the proposal but has advised the AAP government to evaluate it in totality.
  • BJP MLAs entered the Delhi Assembly with oxygen masks and cylinders on Monday to protest against the alleged inaction of the AAP government on tackling pollution.
  • Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that Delhi has become a gas chamber but the AAP government is not paying attention to the problem of pollution.
  • Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary on Monday lashed out at the AAP and the BJP, alleging the parties used the first day of the Assembly session for indulging in political gimmicks instead of transacting any business in the public interest.
