Zack Snyder, known for his past work in the DC Universe, remains connected with its actors despite their personal controversies. In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder revealed that he’s in contact with several comic book movie actors, including Flash star Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher, with whom he worked in Rebel Moon. However, Snyder expressed his interest in working with Amber Heard, a DCEU figure he didn’t personally collaborate with but would consider her for future projects. His stance comes following Heard’s high profile divorce and defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp became talk of the town and destroyed her career.
Snyder extended his support towards Amber, as he feels disheartened seeing her receive online criticism and filmmakers’ unwillingness to work with her. The director said, “I just don’t get it. If other people don’t like her, I don’t know what to say. I would work with her in a second.”
Just like Amber Heard, Zack Snyder had also supported Ezra Miller amid his legal and mental health issues and even praised the actor’s performance in The Flash. He said, “They did a great job in that Flash movie. It’s very difficult to play against yourself.”
Snyder’s recent comments about Heard come amidst speculation surrounding her role as Mera in the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Despite staying in controversy, Heard also continued her role as Mera in the 2021 film Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Meanwhile, reports suggest her role has been reduced in the sequel, however, director James Wan had clarified that her role wasn’t cut short. As per the filmmaker, the sequel focuses more on the brotherly relationship between Arthur and Orm, compared to the romantic tension between Arthur and Mera in the first movie.
In 2016, Amber Heard grabbed headlines after filing for divorce from Johnny Depp. She accused Depp of physical abuse, leading to a highly publicized trial in 2022. During the trial, the jury ruled in favour of Depp and Heard was found guilty of the defamation charges he had raised against her.
Meanwhile, Zack Snyder, who is preparing for the release of his upcoming space film Rebel Moon, has no plans to return to directing DC films. However, he’d consider a Dark Knight Returns adaptation if James Gunn invited him back. For Marvel, Snyder might direct Daredevil and Elektra movies based on Frank Miller’s Elektra Lives Again. Regarding Star Wars, Snyder expressed no interest, mentioning that the franchise is well-managed by the current team.
