In 2021, Farhan Akhtar announced the eagerly awaited film ‘Jee Le Zaraa’, featuring Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif. Initially set to begin production last year, the film was postponed as Akhtar shifted focus to other projects, including ‘Don 3’. However, recent developments suggest that Akhtar and his production company, Excel Entertainment, are exploring the possibility of reviving the film.
Zoya Akhtar, who is set to produce ‘Jee Le Zaraa’, recently provided an update on the project and addressed the reasons for the delay. She confirmed that the film is still in the pipeline, with the primary challenge being the coordination of the stars’ schedules. “I think aligning the three of them, their dates, and Farhan, his dates,” Zoya explained.
Earlier this year, a source close to the production informed ‘Pinkvilla’ that although ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ was put on hold before pre-production, the script has continued to receive finishing touches. The delay, according to the source, was due to scheduling conflicts rather than the project being shelved. This film remains a priority for everyone involved, from producers to writers and the director.
“While Jee Le Zaraa was put on the backburner before proceeding to the pre-production stage, the team at Excel was continuing to give the final touches to the script. The film was put on the back burner due to date issues and not completely called off, as it’s a pet project for all the stakeholders – from the producers to writers and director. The script is completely in place and the team is now looking to revive the project,” the source informed.
‘Jee Le Zaraa’ is seen as a key project for Excel Entertainment, which aims to complete a trilogy of slice-of-life friendship films, following the success of ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. The source also mentioned that during a recent visit to India, Farhan Akhtar met with Priyanka Chopra to rekindle discussions about the film. He has been in touch with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt as well, with the trio working on aligning their schedules to bring the project back on track.
Originally announced as an all-female travel film, ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ has faced rumours that Priyanka and Katrina might no longer be part of the project.
