Horror suspense thriller Masooda was a commercial success and received positive acclaim from the audience. The film screened in theatres, was also made available for the OTT streaming at Aha. Despite its modest budget, the movie received favourable reviews, with critics highly recommending it.
The movie, produced by Rahul Yadav Nakka under the banner of Swadharm Entertainment, was released on November 18, 2022. It’s already being praised as the top horror film of the year. Meanwhile, the film made its debut on a popular OTT platform Aha on December 21, 2022.
Masooda is a supernatural horror film, written and directed by newcomer Sai Kiran. The cast includes Sangeetha, Thiruveer, Kavya Kalyanram and Subhalekha Sudhakar in leading roles alongside Shubhalekha Sudhakar, Satyam Rajesh, Satya Prakash, Akhila Ram, Surya Rao and Surabhi Prabhavathi among others in crucial parts.
The storyline centres on a sinister ghost determined to harm a daughter, who crosses paths with a single mother and her only child. Reportedly, Masooda generated a global revenue of Rs 11.72 crore in 2022, with distributors contributing Rs 6.26 crore of that total amount.
Masooda is a horror film that caters to both fans of slow-burn suspense and enthusiasts of gruesome gore. Packed with chilling sequences that will leave you on edge, it’s the type of movie that would have been perfect for Halloween – but certainly not recommended for those with a weak heart.
On the professional front, Sangeetha is best known for films including Khadgam, Pithamagan, Uyir, Dhanam and Masooda. She began her acting journey in the late 1990s under the name Rasika. Her debut release was the high-budget Malayalam political thriller, Gangotri. Then, she appeared in minor roles like Summer in Bethlehem and Kaadhale Nimmadhi.
Meanwhile, Thiruveer rose to fame with films including Palasa 1978, The Ghazi Attack and Masooda. He last appeared in the film Pareshan. Some of his other films include Tuck Jagadish, George Reddy, Grey Town, Mallesham, The Ghazi Attack and Bommala Ramaram. He has a few projects in the pipeline including Mission Tashari and an untitled film with Gopi Vihari.
