Colombian novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter and journalist Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s cult classic novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, has now become a web series. The series is all set for a December release with the first instalment of eight episodes premiering on December 11, 2024. The second part’s release date is yet to be decided. In an X post shared on October 8, Netflix tweeted, “One Hundred Years of Solitude, inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece, is coming December 11. Step into the mythical town of Macondo with the Buendía family. Discover captivating tales of curses, dreams, whimsy, and loves that defy all odds."

Netflix has also shared the One Hundred Years of Solitude’s teaser on YouTube on April 17, 2024. The teaser shows Colonel Aureliano Buendia awaiting his death, while standing in front of the firing squad. He remembers his childhood, marriage and the subsequent years that followed. The terrific teaser concludes with the Colonel closing his eyes and has garnered more than 18 Lakh views.
One Hundred Years of Solitude stars an ensemble star cast of actors Claudio Cataño, Eduardo De Los Reyes, Ella Becerra and others. Shot in Spanish, the majority of the series was filmed in and around Colombia. Support from Marquez’s family also played a major role in the making of the series, as per the cast.
Gabriel Garcia Marquez penned One Hundred Years of Solitude in 1967. This work has managed to garner readers from all over the world. The novel, which goes through magical realism, has also received many accolades. This is also the novel that got Marquez the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.
Laura Mora and Alex Garcia Lopez have directed this web series. Actors from Colombia and Latin America are enacting important roles in the series.
