Munmun Dutta Opens Up On Disha Vakani Quitting TMKOC For The FIRST Time: 'I Miss Her a Lot'

Munmun Dutta has opened up about Disha Vakani quitting Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for the first time. In a recent interview, Munmun recalled working with Disha, who used to play the role of Dayaben in the popular sitcom, and mentioned that she misses her a lot.

“We always remember those who left us, even the ones who quit the show. I miss Disha a lot. Whenever we crack jokes, we recall, “Remember when Disha said this or that?” We have so many good memories together. Whenever Disha would get calls from unknown numbers, she would change her voice before answering them,” Munmun told ETimes.

Disha Vakani’s portrayal of Daya Tappu Ke Papa Gada was widely loved by the audience. However, she went on an indefinite maternity leave in 2017 and has not returned since then. Lately, Asit Modi has repeatedly conveyed that the hunt for new Dayaben is underway. “The audience of the show has been patiently waiting to see their favourite Dayaben back on the show. The casting for the character isn’t easy and it will be a challenge for any actress to step into Disha’s shoes. We will need a brilliant performer for the part,” Modi told E-Times in August 2023.

Later, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Asit Modi was asked if he was tired of answering the questions regarding Dayaben’s comeback. Asit nodded positively but also shared that he would have to answer fans since he is the maker of the show. He also called Disha Vakani his ‘sister’ and added that he would be the happiest if she decided to come back.

“I will have to answer. I am also tired of answering and requesting people not to ask this question. But I am the producer of the show and therefore I’ll have to answer. Even today I wish that our original Daya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani comes back. Disha is like my sister. She wants to spend time with her family. She has two kids. If she does not want to come back, I cannot force her,” he told us.

Disha Vakani is not the only actor who has left TMKOC in the show’s journey of 16 years. Several others including Raj Anadkat, Gurucharan Singh, Jennifer Mistry and Kush Shah also quit the show.
