New Delhi: A woman who was shot by former JD(U) MLA Raju Singh during celebratory firing on New Year’s Eve succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, three days after battling for life. Archana was shot in the head at a south Delhi farmhouse during the firing.
The Delhi Police arrested Singh along with his driver Hari Singh on Wednesday from Kushi Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, they recovered two rifles and a pistol along with 800 live cartridges from the crime scene during investigation.
Archana's husband Vikas is a friend of the accused MLA’s brother. They were invited for the New Year celebration in the farmhouse. Police sources said the family of the accused also tried to eliminate the evidence from the crime scene by trying to clean the blood stains from the floor.
Police have questioned the guests who were present at the party. There were approximately 70 people in the party of which 35 were on the dance floor. According to police, they got the information about the incident from the hospital. None of the guests made the PCR call. The accused and his driver were absconding after the incident but were finally arrested.
Police have indicated that more arrests are likely in the case soon. Flt Lt Rajan Dhall of Fortis Hospital said, "The patient was brought to the emergency at 00:18am on January 1st by her attendant in an extremely critical condition. She was attended by the doctor immediately and the medical treatment was administered as per protocol. Delhi Police was informed & a medico legal case was registered. The patient continues to be in critical state and is on life support.”
