Using the Autotune (Equalizer) Voice Effect
Tap + in the TikTok app. You'll need to record a video before you can apply the autotune effect. If you've used TikTok's autotune filter before and can't find it, don't worry—it's still there. They've just changed the name to "Equalizer." If you haven't updated the TikTok app in a while, update it using the Google Play Store on Android or the App Store on iPhone and iPad.
Record a video of yourself singing. To do so, select the video length you want to record, then tap the large circle button at the bottom of the screen to start recording. When you're finished, tap it again to stop recording.
Tap the pink checkmark. When you're finished recording, tap the pink checkmark icon in the lower-right corner to proceed to the screen where you can select additional filters.
Tap the microphone/voice icon in the menu bar to the right. This opens the voice effects menu. If you don't see the microphone icon, tap the arrow pointing down in the menu to the right to display all icons.
Tap the Enhancers. tab. It's the third tab above all the voice effects at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the Equalizer effect. This is the effect previously known as "Autotune." It applies both auto-EQ and autotune to your voice. Once selected, you'll hear the autotuned version of your voice. If you want more options for autotune, you can record your video with an app like Voloco and then upload the video to TikTok instead.
Tap Save and post your video. If you are happy with how your voice sounds, tap Save in the upper-right corner. You can now share the video with others.
Getting More Autotune Effects with Voloco
Download and install Voloco. If you're not happy with the autotune filter in TikTok, you can get even more autotune effects with the free version of Voloco. This app allows you to record autotuned videos and audio clips, which you can then upload to TikTok. The paid version has more effects you can use. Voloco is available to download from the Google Play Store on Android or the App Store on iPhone and iPad.
Open the Voloco app and create an account. The first time you open Voloco, you may be asked to allow the app to use your app and/or camera. Tap While using the app to allow the app access to your microphone and/or camera. You'll also need to sign in or create an account, which you can do using your Google, Facebook, or Apple account. Select your key and scale. To get the most out of any autotune effect, it helps if you know the key and the scale you are singing in (i.e., "E minor"). Otherwise, it will sound out of tune. To select your key and scale, tap the gear in the upper-right corner to make your selections.
Record a video of you singing. To do so, tap the large red circular button at the bottom of the screen. Tap it again to stop recording.
Tap FX. It's the first option below the video playback screen at the top of the page.
Select an autotune effect. There are 5 different autotune effects below "Starter" on the main page: Hard Tune: This applies heavy autotune, giving it that robotic tone. Natural Tune: This applies a lighter autotune that is supposed to sound more natural. Super Vocoder: This create a low mechanical voice. Big Chorus: This creates a chorus of multiple autotuned voices singing in harmony. Clean: This removes the autotune effect.
Adjust the pitch correction strength. Use the slider bar below "Pitch correction strength to adjust the strength of the autotune effect.
Preview your video. To do so, tap the video playback screen to exit the FX menu, then tap the Play triangle. If you want, you can use the options below the video playback screen to apply other effects, such as compressor, EQ, Echo, and Reverb.
Save the video. When you are happy with how the video sounds, use the following steps to save the video: Tap Continue at the bottom of the screen. Tap Save to library. Tap Watch video. Tap the Download icon in the upper-right corner. It resembles an arrow with an arrow over a tray.
