CHENNAI: Reiterating his party’s opposition to the monorail project, the PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss on Friday said his party would move the court if the State government goes ahead with the project. Speaking to reporters here, Ramadoss claimed that the monorail project was not feasible in Chennai. When the previous AIADMK government tried to bring monorail, the PMK had approached the court.“The party withdrew the case as the government told the court that it was not going ahead on the plan. If the government now remains firm, we will go to court again,” he said.Disclosing that his party would not contest the Tiruchy West bypoll as the party was focusing on civic elections, he said it could however support the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi in Tiruchi if it contested alone. Also, there is a possibility of his party tying up with the VCK for the elections to the local bodies, he said.Similar to the new proposal of direct election to the posts of corporation mayors and municipal chairpersons, panchayat union presidents and district panchayat chiefs must also be elected directly, he said. The civic elections should be conducted in one go across Tamil Nadu rather than in two phases, he said.Ruling out coalition with MDMK, he reiterated that his party would not have any truck with the national parties either.Stating that only his party acted as a ‘responsible and true opposition’ in the State assembly he said, the PMK does not have any objection to the Tirumazhisai Satellite Township plan as long as farm lands were not acquired. On the issue of death sentence to Murugan and two others, he yet again urged the State to recommend commutation to the governor after a formal endorsement of the State Cabinet. “In general, our stance is against death punishment. In India, Tamil Nadu should show the way to others by going against death as a form of punishment.”
