Union of socially conscious art

KOCHI: The ongoing exhibition of paintings by T R Udayakumar at the Press Club Art Gallery here showcases an amalgamation of socially conscious art. The artist, holding his sixth solo exhibition, had chosen works from a number of collections done on separate themes.The 35 works with recurring socially-relevant themes appeal to the senses and sensibilities alike. Modern man’s struggle for survival, his seemingly endless race through life, the snares that target the weak and the powerless, the evil hounding women and even children were all depicted symbolically. The rarely seen mixed media combination of charcoal with acrylic or water painting brightened even canvases depicting dark and haunting themes. The exhibition, inaugurated by Lalithakala Akademi chairman K A Francis, will conclude on Thursday.
