HYDERABAD: A private employee, who went on a picnic along with his friends, drowned in the Gandipet lake on Sunday evening. Four of his friends were taken into custody after the locals and family members raised suspicion of foul play behind the death of the person.The deceased, K Vinod Kumar (37), was a resident of Srinivasa Nagar housing colony in Khairatabad and worked as a network engineer in TNS private company at Hitec City. Being Sunday, Vinod along with his four friends - Krishna Murali, Shabbir Pasha, Mohd Abdul Asad and Ramesh - went to Gandipet lake for a picnic. All the four are businessmen and employees of private companies and reside in Errummanzil.According to police, Vinod’s friends consumed liquor on the banks of the lake. “After sometime, Vinod Kumar, reportedly, entered the waters along with a fishing rod to catch fish and slipped into the deep waters and drowned, Narsingi police said. Locals of the Khanapur village who saw Vinod drowning, rushed to the spot to rescue him. “The villagers and family members of the deceased suspected foul play behind Vinod’s death,” police said.Vinod’s family members told police that he can swim. Based on a complaint by Vinod’s brother Uday Kumar, police took the four friends into custody and are questioning them. A case has been registered.
