RAMANATHAPURAM: In a joint operation, the fisheries department officials and coastal security group (CSG) police detained seven mechanised boats for using banned nets in Rameswaram on Sunday.Sources said around 300 boats were engaged in fishing in sea when the inspection team launched a surprise raid. As some fishermen were found to be using banned nets for a huge harvest, the official team detained them. The owners of the detained boats will have to attend an inquiry conducted by the deputy director for fisheries, Madurai. It is said that fishing token would not be issued to these boats till the inquiry was over.
