CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India and Puthiya Tamizhagam on Friday urged the State government to protect the Tamil film industry from the “clutches of the family members” of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.M Arumugam (CPI) and PT founder K Krishnasamy said the domination of family members of Karunanidhi had pushed the film industry into a crisis and producers were unable to release their films on time. Replying to this, Information Minister G Senthamizhan said during the past five years, film industry was put to great hardship. There was an unannounced emergency in force as far as the film industry was concerned during the DMK regime, he added. The Minister said after J Jayalalithaa assumed office as Chief Minister, rule of law has been restored in and she would take steps to redeem the film industry too.
