MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Tamil Nadu government, police and prison officials to grant parole to Ravi alias Ravichandran, a convict serving life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.Following an appeal made by his mother, Justice V Ramasubramanian set aside a State government order passed on September 26, 2011, rejecting the parole application filed by Ravi. Ravi’s mother P Rajeswari of Aruppukottai filed the petition stating her son should be released immediately since he had spent 20 years in jail. Citing her failing health, she also stressed on the need for his early release as she had to make arrangements for providing a decent future for her son. Raj-eswari also wanted to settle a family dispute and register properties belonging to her in Ravi’s name. Setting aside the impug-ned order passed by the State, the Judge directed the respondents to grant ‘ordinary leave’ to the petitioner’s son for a period of at least 15 days.
