Professionalism is the key, says Goidani

CHENNAI: Organisation building and paradigm shifts in the view of professionals are key for businesses if they want to be prepared to do business in the future. This was the message from inspirational trainer Narendra Goidani at an oration titled ‘Are You Building Tomorrow’s Business or Maintaining Yesterday’s Business?’ that he delivered to the Chennai Chapter of the Jain International Trade Organisation.Goidani, co-founder of training company Life School, told his audience that expanding a business to effectively grow and function in the future would depend on whether the entrepreneur was able to create an organisational culture where professionals could function with motivation.“Most small entrepreneurs refuse to hire professionals on the basis that they are expensive. Instead they hire a non-professional for a measly sum. Often, they end up having to correct the work of the non-professional. When you hire a professional you can be assured that relevant work will be done, and you can leverage that into greater turnover,” said Goidani.He cited a survey report conducted by global financial services major Goldman Sachs to underline his point that Indian businesses, while good at many things, were terrible when it came to rewarding talent.Goidani asked entrepreneurs in his audience to come up with good products that could make an impact on their respective markets. “There is no use having a unique product if no one wants it. Your product must be relevant and must make an impact. Only then will your customers rely on it. Without this there is no question that your business will be left to the whims of the customer,” Goidani said.Jain International Trade Organisation Chennai Chapter chairman Lalith Mehta and chief secretary Uday Mehta were among those present at the oration.
