Jammu: Asserting that Pakistan has no ownership over Gilgit-Baltistan, which it reportedly plans to lease out to China for 50 years, BJP on Sunday said the Central government has to take strong steps to save the region and its people from being killed.
"Pakistan has no title-ship of the land of Gilgat-Baltistan. As per the Constitution of Pakistan it is not a Pak area -- It is a J-K area", Jammu and Kashmir Prabhari (in charge) Prof Jagdish Mukhi said on Sunday.
Responding to a query on reports about the Pak plan to lease out Gilgat-Baltistan to China for 50 years, Mukhi said, "Pakistan does not have ownership over that region".
"We condemn such moves. We want the Centre to take strong steps in this regard. It is a Central subject. They need to intervene", he said.
Lashing out at the J-K Government for 'double standards', Mukhi said, "J-K people raise a hue and cry when their land is leased out for any project to the Centre, but keep mum to the fate of Gilgat-Baltistan which is a part of Jammu and Kashmir".
BJP has brought a resolution in this regard, he said, adding that human rights violations are taking place in Gilgat-Baltistan and Central government is silent over it.
"There are massacres and killings of Shia Muslims in Gilgat-Baltistan. They are being arrested without warrants. Grave human rights violations are taking place", BJP spokesman and Dr Jitender Singh told reporters.
