HYDERABAD: When government schools across the country lack basic amenities and infrastructure, a group of youngsters from the city’s Passionate Foundation has chosen to identify and support such schools rather than debate the issue over a cup of coffee. The organization, which works among youngsters to create awareness about social issues, has identified one school and adopted it in association with the Hyderabad Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre. The government primary school at old Bowenpally was adopted, to be transformed into a model school, here on Tuesday in the presence of Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar, socialite Pinky Reddy and Ramesh Jackson, general manager, Mariott.20-year-old Chaitanya MRSK, founder and secretary of the three-and-a-half-year-old social welfare organization, said, “we have tried and succeeded in providing the school with basic infrastructure and amenities like compound wall, toilets, furniture, laptops, television etc apart from arranging value-based classes on Saturdays and regular spoken English classes.” The school has also received support from the Marriott hotel, which provides an add-on to the mid-day meal scheme in the form of an egg, banana and vegetable curry for all the 225 students of the school.Addressing the gathering, the Speaker said, “It’s a great work by youngsters and we need more people to come forward with such initiatives.” The school is currently functioning with just four class rooms for students from Class 1 to VII.
