New Delhi: Trouble is mounting for Nestle is not just India but in other countries too. Cracking the whip on Maggi noodles, the food regulator in United Kingdom has sought details of the test results of the product and batches involved from Indian officials.
The UK FSA has said that Nestle has told them that only the Masala variant of Maggi is imported into UK from India. The crackdown by UK came even as the Agri-Food Authority of Singapore has said that Maggi noodles meet the safety standards in their country.
However, there is no end for trouble for Maggi in India with Odisha becoming the 14th state to ban the two-minute noodles. In Kerala, too, the Kochi health corporation on Tuesday seized 2,000 packets of Maggi. The ban comes even as Nestle has ordered to take Maggi off the shelves from India.
While Nestle is already caught in the web after excess MSG and lead above permissible limits was found in Maggi noodles, other brands manufacturing noodles, pasta, and macaroni might face the axe, too. Food safety regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered testing of branded noodles, pasta and macaroni made by firms, including ITC, GSK Consumer, Ruchi International, Indo Nissin.
"Various test results on Maggi and some other similar products have raised serious health concerns. In view of the same, it would be advisable to draw regulatory samples for similar products for which product approvals have been granted by the FSSAI. These samples should be sent to the authorised labs for testing," FSSAI CEO YS Malik said in letter to Commissioners of Food Safety in all states and UTs.
