CHENNAI: Residents of Pallikaranai on Wednesday evening were shocked after they saw a man hacked a seven-month-old stray dog with an aruval (sickle). People residing in Madameethi Street in Pallikaranai heard yelps of anguish across the street, only to come out of their homes and witness their neighbour, identified as Hari, dragging a dog into his house. He later allegedly butchered the animal to death.Chandrakanth, one of the residents of Narayanapuram, alleged that he saw the mutilated carcass of the dog being dragged out of Hari’s compound. “After we heard the dog’s cries, neighbours rushed out onto the street. The dog was lying in a pool of blood.” This prompted a call to the Blue Cross of India, who decided to lodge a complaint with the Pallikaranai Police in this regard. The neighbours also claimed that Hari was prone to attacking dogs for some strange reason and got perturbed every time a dog barked at him.Dawn Williams, General Manager, Blue Cross of India, has filed a formal complaint with the Pallikaranai Police. “We are not going to let this go lightly,” he said and added that this was the second such incident being registered at the same police station.
