HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has proposed to take up comprehensive improvement and upgrading of selected major arterial roads for about 150160 km length so that they last for up to 15 to 20 years. GHMC officials said a survey of major roads revealed weak structural stability and other factors which need to be strengthened and rectified.In the first phase, GHMC proposed to take up ten major roads covering 26 km covering Raj Bhavan road, Indira Park road, Road No 10 and 12, Banjara Hills, RP road, Liberty to Fever Hospital, Vidyanagar, Tarnaka and Charminar to Falaknuma.The civic body has appointed Mumbaibased Consulting Engineering Services Pvt Ltd to conduct a detailed survey and investigation and carry out design and cost estimates so as to take up road repairs. They asked the consultant to prioritise the major roads to an extent of 150160 km and suggest where to lay BT road or CC road based on traffic volume.The consultant is carrying out detailed survey for major roads in Central Zone (93.1 km), North Zone (11.5 km), South Zone (11.5 km), East Zone (13 km) and West Zone (23 km). The consultant has submitted draft DPRs for some major roads.
