Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the 'Malwa Queen', a cruise boat, in the Pipliya Pala pond situated in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Park in Indore on Sunday.
Built at a cost of Rs 80 lakh, the boat was launched by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC). On the occasion, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that it was a matter of pride for citizens of Indore that an 80-seater cruise boat was launched in the city.
"Now it is the duty of every citizen to ensure cleanliness in the pond to enjoy a cruise boat ride," she said.
Mahajan also expressed concern about a Union Environment Ministry report citing Indore among the most polluted city in the country.
"I have written a letter to Union Environment and Forest Minister inquiring about the parameter according to which Indore is considered as polluted and what help his Ministry would extend in reducing pollution levels," she said.
Madhya Pradesh Urban Administration and Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Tourism and Culture Minister Surendra Patwa and MPTDC Managing Director Raghvendra Singh, among others, were present on the occasion.
